Mickey
Hi, Trish, I wanted to give you an update on Mickey, and let anyone who is looking around on your site to know about our experience so far. We have had our silver standard male for 2 1/2 weeks now. I can't believe it has been such a short time, because he is such a member of the family. He is beautiful and so good-natured. He is always happy and he makes us happy. What a wonderful Christmas present. He was mostly house-trained when we got him. We did have a few accidents the first week, but that was pretty much our fault, and once he settled in to our routine, and we got to know his a little better, things have been very smooth. He likes to steal socks, shoes, towels, laundry, etc., and chew for a couple of seconds, then he is on to something new. But, he is such a gentle chewer that he hasn't ruined anything. He doesn't even leave teeth marks. We are trying to discourage him from chewing inappropriate things, and have plenty of toys to replace the shoes with, and I think he will catch on. He learned to "sit" after just 2 little impromptu sessions in the kitchen with me, and now sits patiently whenever I ask him to. Julie, our 5 year-old female standard, has become quite taken with him, and they love rolling around and playing in the backyard. Boy Dog, our 13 year-old crotchety old mutt, barely tolerated him until a couple of days ago, and now seems resigned, and has actually been playing with him a little, as well. We had lots of family over for Christmas, plus an extra family dog. Mickey and the other dogs (with the exception of crotchety old Boy Dog) had a great time. My family fell in love with Mickey, and my brother and sister-in-law have decided that their next dog will be a standard poodle. Yea! All in all, our experience has been completely positive, and we couldn't have asked for a sweeter dog. Thank you so much!
